Roots Market’s 2nd Annual Vegan Summer Festival was a huge hit!

_BB_9232Over 500 attendees braved the 100+ degree heat to enjoy tastings and samples from leading vendors like Vega, Amy’s, Sweet Earth, and many more.

Oh, and there was a build-your-own vegan mac & cheese and vegan nacho station, too:


If you’ve been a vegan in the Baltimore area, you’ve most likely heard about the mecca that is Conscious Corner. ┬áThis veg-friendly oasis in Clarksville (just outside of Columbia, MD) hosts businesses that are “committed to healthy and mindful living,” including Roots Market, a locally-owned, vegan-featured grocery, Great Sage, an award-winning vegan upscale restaurant, Nest, a sustainable home goods store and Bark, an eco-friendly pet store.

Indeed, the festival revolved around the culture of veganism, rather than just vegan food alone. Animal sanctuaries like Burleigh Manor as well as welfare groups like Compassion Over Killing were in attendance speaking about their respective missions. Vegan lifestyle and wellness vendors like Mad Hippie skincare and Satva Living were demoing products and Bhakti Lounge Baltimore spoke about meditation and yoga.


Inside the store, shoppers were calmed with an acoustic set by Ian Otto Collins and outdoor, Sarah Driver serenaded the rest of the festival.

Of course, the vegan food options were off the charts! Roots was sharing samples of their forthcoming vegan cheese ravioli, which will hit shelves later this year. And then there was the oh-so-sweet build-your-own cookie sandwich or cupcake station. Best of all, Roots to-go case was filled to the brim and they were running a buy one get one special on all Gardein products!


So how did it turn out? “This vegan fest far exceeded all of my expectations and drove home the fact that veganism is becoming more of the norm each and every day,” reflected Katie.

We’re already looking forward to the next vegan fest – I’m sure it will be bigger and better than ever.
